As the word Skilled Migrant implies, this category is based on Skills and Experience. These skills have been obtained through education and or may also be gained by the number of years of experience you have.

The objective of the Skilled Migrant Category is to provide for the grant of residence to people who demonstrate that they have skills to fill identified needs and opportunities in New Zealand, and are able to transfer those skills to New Zealand and link with local needs and opportunities. They are  able to demonstrate their ability to contribute to New Zealand both economically and socially, and are able to demonstrate their ability to successfully settle in New Zealand.

In meeting these objectives, the Skilled Migrant Category will maximise and accelerate the contribution of immigration to New Zealand through capacity building, sustainable growth and innovation, increase global connectiveness and build thriving and inclusive communities through focusing on a range of source regions to achieve a balanced programme and linking global talent with New Zealand's local opportunities.

The proces under the Skilled Migrant Category is in four stages;

  1. First, complete an assessment to ensure you score the required points (please note that these points change regularly).
  2. When you believe that you score the required points, submit you "Expression of Interest" (EOI) into the Pool.
  3. When selected from the Pool, normally there is a draw every fortnight, you will receive an "Invitation to Apply" (ITA).
  4. The ITA will be assessed by INZ and when succesfull, Residence (PR) will be granted.

For further or additional information please contact us.

.

The Government first deferred EOI selections for the Skilled Migrant Category and Parent Category in April 2020. The Government has not made a decision yet when these categories are being reviewed and re-activated.

Skilled Employment is determined by your level of education, the job title for your (offered) position and the level of your salary which changes every year
